A prominent Think Tank of Minhaj University, Centre of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA) on 31st July 2024 organized a webinar "Maritime Security and Regional Stability: UN 2030 Agenda".
The webinar features guest speakers Dr Ian Ralby (Senior Fellow, Centre for Maritime Strategy, USA with experience of working on maritime security in 95 countries), Mr Fidel Amakye Owusu (Geopolitical & Security Advisor, Riley Risk Inc., USA and Special Assistant to Former Vice President of Ghana), Dr Farhat Asif (President, Institute of Peace & Diplomatic Studies, Pakistan).
The webinar managed by our SDG-16 Ambassador and moderated by Dr Waqasia Naeem was from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM and speakers talked about how Maritime Security had an impact on Sustainable Development Goals.
The webinar highlighted the discussion on the emerging threats to maritime security around the globe and their vulnerabilities to disrupt the global order and the UN 2030 Agenda. The event stressed the need for international collaboration to mitigate these risks in a peaceful manner requiring an inclusive approach to address all the stakeholders.
Prof Dr Sajid Mehmood Shahzad (Vice Chancellor, Minhaj University Lahore) concluded the webinar by highlighting the importance of oceans and seas in our daily life and blocking SLOCs is meant to block the world lifeline. The world, especially after the COVID pandemic cannot bear an economic crunch and international unrest. The divided people on land can be united but it is only done when we utilize ocean resources in a responsible manner.
